A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION | To designate March 2013 as Career-Technical Education
and Skilled Workforce Development Month.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS, The members of the 130th General Assembly of the
State of Ohio are pleased to designate March 2013 as
Career-Technical Education and Skilled Workforce Development Month
in Ohio; and |
WHEREAS, Ohio has one of the most robust, comprehensive, and
successful career and technical education systems in the United
States; and |
WHEREAS, There are ninety-one career-technical planning
districts, which include city, local, and exempted school
districts, as well as career-technical centers; and |
WHEREAS, Every region of Ohio offers career-technical and
adult education programs to provide students of all ages with the
opportunity to pursue their educational passions and career
ambitions; and |
WHEREAS, Career-technical education is a choice that students
make in order to accelerate their career goals; and |
WHEREAS, Ohio benefits economically from the relationship
between career-technical education programs and local business and
industry; and |
WHEREAS, High school students who graduate from a
career-technical education program are equipped with choices, such
as starting their careers, continuing their education with a base
of knowledge in their chosen field, or doing both at the same
time; and |
WHEREAS, Adult students who take advantage of educational
opportunities offered through their local, publicly funded career
centers increase their marketability in the workforce; and |
WHEREAS, Approximately one in four Ohio high school students
is enrolled in a career-technical education program; and |
WHEREAS, In 2011, ninety-eight per cent of career-technical
workforce students graduated from high school, fifty-seven per
cent were employed, and fifty-eight per cent enrolled in a
post-secondary education program; now therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, designate March
2013 as Career-Technical Education and Skilled Workforce
Development Month in Ohio; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize that
career and technical education systems and skilled workforce
development programs are important to the strength and vitality of
Ohio's economic future; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives
transmit a duly authenticated copy of this resolution to the
Association for Career and Technical Education and to the news
media of Ohio. |
