BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States enacted the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, Public Law No. 106-386, Division A, for the purpose of combating trafficking in persons, a contemporary manifestation of slavery whose victims are predominantly women and children, to ensure just and effective punishment of traffickers, and to protect their victims; and

WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States authorized appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, Public Law No. 106-386, Division A, as amended, for fiscal years 2014 through 2017 as part of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, S.47 of the 113th Congress; and

WHEREAS, The continuation of the combat against trafficking in persons and ensuring the just and effective punishment of traffickers and the protection of their victims is dependent on appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2014 and later fiscal years; and

WHEREAS, Attorneys General from across the United States have urged Congress to enact legislation that authorizes appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000; and

WHEREAS, This legislative body can work in a spirit of cooperation with the efforts of Ohio's Attorney General; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Ohio House of Representatives requests the President of the United States to sign the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, which authorizes appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 2014 and later fiscal years; and be it further
