A RESOLUTION | To designate Schmidt's Bahama Mama sausage as the
official sausage of Ohio in recognition of
Schmidt's 100th anniversary at the Ohio State
Fair.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, The Schmidt brand has been an integral part of
Central Ohio since 1886 when Schmidt's first opened as a packing
house; and |
WHEREAS, Schmidt's is the oldest privately owned vendor at
any fair in the United States and the oldest food vendor at the
Ohio State Fair; and |
WHEREAS, The Schmidt family and brand will be celebrating
their centennial anniversary as part of the Ohio State Fair this
summer; and |
WHEREAS, Schmidt's has been a proud participant in the Sale
of Champions for numerous years at the Ohio State Fair. The
All-Ohio State Fair Band has visited Schmidt's Sausage Haus on the
fairgrounds to play a birthday tribute to George Schmidt for
nearly 80 years and continues this tradition for John Schmidt; and

WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of hungry Ohioans have enjoyed
Schmidt's signature sausage, the Bahama Mama; and |
WHEREAS, There are many wonderful sausages in Ohio, but only
one Bahama Mama with its delicate blend of spices; now therefore
be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of
Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of the State of
Ohio, in adopting this resolution, designate Schmidt's Bahama Mama
sausage as the official sausage of Ohio in recognition of
Schmidt's 100th anniversary at the Ohio State Fair; and be it
further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the
Schmidt family in Columbus and the news media of Ohio. |
