A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To urge Congress to consider and implement appropriate sanctions against Ukraine.


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, In November 2013, when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a trade pact with the European Union, Ukrainians began to peacefully assemble and protest; and

        WHEREAS, Since November, hundreds of thousands of Ukranians have taken to the streets of Kiev to demand that the European Union deal be signed; and

        WHEREAS, The protests suggest that a courageous Ukrainian people aspire for a democratic, sovereign, and European-allied Ukraine; and

        WHEREAS, In response to the protests, the Ukrainian Parliament has passed laws that limit freedom of assembly, and restrict the media; and

        WHEREAS, In response to the protests, Ukrainian authorities, before the eyes of the world, have resorted to unnecessary and cruel brutality and violence; now therefore be it

        RESOLVED, That the Congress of the United States is urged to consider and implement appropriate sanctions against Ukraine; and be it further

        RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, the President Pro Tempore and Secretary of the United States Senate, the members of the Ohio Congressional delegation, and the news media of Ohio.
